Connecting people and communities

KEY was founded on the principle that people with learning disabilities have the right to be fully contributing members of their local communities.

Inclusion is at the heart of what we do. Driven by the aspirations and needs of each person we support, we seek to engage all sections of our communities to enable each individual to flourish and to fulfil their unique role as citizens.  We do this through a number of initiatives, from our ‘Living a Life’ Inclusion Planning Service to linking people up through the Internet in our Cyber Groups.

My job and what it means to meWe support people to expand the personal social networks they have developed.  We encourage people to seek new opportunities and we support them to establish themselves as: employees, volunteers, partners, community builders and as valued neighbours.  We support people to live ordinary lives, in ordinary communities and together achieve extra-ordinary things.

People with learning disabilities have many gifts, talents and insights that make communities better places to live.  We strive to empower people to discover and develop their individual gifts and talents.  We find accessible ways in which people can share their vision with the wider community and so break down barriers!

People supported by KEY are leading the way by taking their place in Community Councils, political organisations, campaigning and advocacy groups and National fora, including the Scottish Government, to establish a fairer, more equal Scotland. You can find out more about some of these groups on our KEY Links page.
